Discover the Legacy of Brierfield National School
Explore our rich history, dedicated staff, and vibrant community that make Brierfield National School a cornerstone of education.
Our Journey Through Time
Brierfield N.S. opened in 1892. It underwent a refurbishment funded by the Department of Education in 2004- 2006. As the funding did not include a school hall, the Board of Management & Parents’ Association made the decision to fundraise for this. Labour was given free of charge from the community, as well as donations of building materials. The refurbished school along with a new school hall funded by the school community was officially opened in June 2006 by then Minister for Education Mary Hanafin. In 2007, a new classroom extension was added to the school, accommodating a fourth classroom teacher.
In 2016, we opened our Autism Class, the first in the locality. We believe that is it so important for every child to be able to attend their local school with their siblings, and local community. We can say with certainty, that having the Autism Class in our school, has added so much to the
wonderful culture of Brierfield National School and we are so glad that this class opened in 2016.
In 2019, the Board of Management purchased a field funded by the school community as a school
playing ground.
Our Mission and Vision

The culture of our school is inclusive, allowing all pupils to develop to their greatest potential, placing a strong emphasis on the holistic and personal development of the child.
